I wanted to share a story that happened this weekend at out baseball
game. My boys are 8 & 10 and play in a local league that has teams of
8-10 year olds on it. One of the teams (not ours) has a boy that has
Down’s Syndrome. We played against this team on Saturday afternoon.
This boy, whose name is Paul, got up to bat. This first time, he
struck out, but everyone, including our crowd, cheered for him. The
second time he batted, he hit a ground ball right to our first baseman
(Austin, who is 9 and my neighbor’s son). Now instead of tagging Paul
out, or touching the base, Austin just threw the ball back to the
pitcher and let Paul have the base. The act of kindness nearly
brought the entire crowd to tears.
In this world that seems to be going in the wrong direction, I just
wanted to let everyone know that there are still good parents out
there, teaching their kids morals and kindness, and that the kids are
listening and showing that the do care about others.
