Ostara Buns
Ingredients:
* ? cup warm water
* 3 tbsp butter
* 1 tbsp instant powdered milk
* ? cup white sugar
* 3/8 tsp salt
* 1 egg + 1 egg white
* 3 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 tbsp active dry yeast
* ? cup currants
* 1 tsp ground cinnamon
* 1 egg yolk
* 2 tbsp water
* ? cup powdered/icing sugar
* ? tsp vanilla extract
* 2 tsp milk
Make the dough in the bread baking machine or following the following instructions:
Combine the warm water, butter, powdered milk, sugar, salt, egg, egg white, flour, and yeast. Turn onto a lightly floured surface. Knead about 5 minutes. Knead in the currants and cinnamon; continue kneading for another 5 minutes. Place in a greased bowl and turn the greased side up. Cover and let it rise until it is double in size. Punch the dough down on a floured surface, cover and let it rise another 10 minutes. Shape the dough into 12 balls and place in a greased 9×12-inch pan. Cover and let rise in a warm place until they are doubled, about 35-40 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 180C / 375F? . Mix the egg yolk and 2 tbsp water. Brush onto the balls. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove from the pan immediately and cool on a wire rack.
Mix together the powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk; use it to paint your desired symbols on each cooled bun.
