Occasionally you may come across a baby squirrel (or several) who have been orphaned due to various circumstances.
Here is a Homemade Formula Recipe:
1/3 c. Milk, scalded
Several Drops of Food Grade Vitamin E oil (NOT cosmetic grade)To scald 1/3 cup of milk, put it in the microwave for 30 seconds, remove, stir with a wooden spoon, return to microwave for another 25-30 seconds. Remove, stir, it should foam up when you stir it the second time. Add several drops of vitamin E oil, let it cool, cover it and refrigerate. Use within 2 days
To use: Heat up a small amount (about 2 Tbs at a time), feed the baby squirrel with a syringe dropper, NOT an eye dropper, which can (and more than likely WILL kill him by causing aspiration. Which is essentially when the poor thing chokes, aspirates it into his little lungs, gets pneumonia and dies a miserable death within a few days.) You’ll know when this has happened and you’ve just doomed your little orphan if he suddenly blows milk bubbles out his little nose.
A baby squirrel MUST be fed this WARMED milk formula EVERY 5 hours (yes, day AND Night). Never feed a Cold baby, warm his thoroughly for at least 30 minutes prior to feeding. - April 23, 2019 at 6:51 am #570293

* it’s that time of year again, keep an eye out for them. Occasionally neighborhood dogs and cats find them.
