One of my favorite potluck dessert recipes is an orange dreamsicle cake. There are a couple ways of making this.
1 Pkg Yellow Cake Mix
2 sm Pkgs Orange JELL-O or 1 Large Pkg
1 sm Pkg Vanilla Instant Pudding or (1 recipe homemade pudding prepared by directions)
1 Cup Milk
2 Tsp Vanilla
1 Tub Cool Whip (8oz the smaller size)Bake the cake as directed on the box direction in a 9×13″ pan. Let cake cool completely.
Poke holes in cooled cake. Mix 1 package orange jello with 1
c.boiling water and 1 c. cold water. Pour the jello mixture all over the top of cake.
refrigerate for 4 hours.Mix instant pudding mix with cold milk WITH the other package of orange gelatin dessert and vanilla.
Beat by hand with a whisk until thickened. Fold in the cool whip (store brand is fine).
The Fully Involved, not so lazy method.
Make the cake according to the package directions (use a homemade cake mix!). Bake it in 8″ round pans (to make a layer cake.)
Let the cake cool, Cut each cake in half using a piece of dental floss, making 4 cake layers.Mix instant pudding mix with cold milk WITH the other package of orange gelatin dessert and vanilla. (or use 1 recipe prepared homemade pudding, add 1 pkg of instant jello to it, stir until dissolved) Fold in the cool whip.
Remove the jello from the fridge, Loosen the sides of the jello by running a plastic knife all the way around the inside of the pan.
This is how you get the pretty layered look!

I like the lazy method! LOL! A friend of mine loves dreamsicles and she only wants an interesting cake every year for her birthday from me.
