I haven’t seen much said about Texas… the cost of living is lower here (I am in a suburb of Houston) and the houses are cheaper, too (much cheaper then Calif or the east coast (ny, nj… etc..)).

but, it all depends on what neighborhood you are in, just like anywhere else. some are more expensive, some less, some houses bigger, some smaller.

There is a calculator at http://www.money.com that lets you put in where you currently live vs. where you would like to move to, enter in your income and it will tell you how much more or less money it will take to live in another area of the country.
