I’m in CA (East Contra Costa county; greater East Bay). Our 2800 4

bed + loft, 3 bath, 3 car garage home was $605K when we bought it in

2004, during the first stage of building in our development (the

model ended up selling for $740K less than a year later). Yesterday

      I paid $2.89 for gas (10-cent Safeway discount). I make $65,000 as

a middle school teacher (12 years experience plus master’s degree).

While my salary would be dependent on the area in which we live, my

husband’s would remain steady (Costco pays the same no matter where

the area is), but he only works part-time so that he is home during

the day with the kids. We are blessed, both in our family

situation, and our area in which we live. All of our family is

here, or I would seriously consider moving to some of the areas

      spoken about on this thread.
