I find it fascinating to see what things cost in other places. I live
in a small city in Ontario, Canada. Here the minimum wage is more than
$8 per hour (I’m not sure of the exact amount). A skilled tradesman
makes between $15 and $25 per hour. A RN starts at around $24 per hour
and the top wage is over $38. Our taxes on income here are much higher
than in the Uniterd States. Costs for groceries are much higher. My
sister is an RN in Texas and her wages are less than mine but her money
goes a lot farther. She has a 2400 sq foot house with 4 bedrooms and 2
1/2 baths and a swimming pool on a 1/2 acre lot. It is worth about
$150,000. She lives southwest of Houston. My house is detached, 1680
square feet with 4 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths. The lot is 40X177 feet. It
is worth about $260,000. The property taxes are $3200 per year. Here an
1100 sq foot townhouse would cost $200,000.
