Hi all. I am new to this site but not to being frugal. I come from a long line of frugalites.
I am 30 something, a mom to a teen, in school full time and just lost my job today thanks to the economy.

I thought before I headed off to post in other threads I should at least kind of introduce myself. As I get more comfortable I am sure I will share more but for now this is all I feel comfortable with.

      A little current knowledge:
More going out than coming in.
Looking for ways to make money while staying at home. I am very crafty so I am geared to think that way. Make things to sell, not sure if the economy is so far gone though.
Looking for ways to cut back even more.
NO money in savings because 2008 wiped it all out (sickness, surgeries, major repairs on home [and more still to do] and vehicles, etc)

Okay that is the jest of it.

Welcome to the site gal. As far as making money, if you could put together a few things for an upcoming holiday craft show you might be able to raise a bit of quick cash. In lots of areas the high schools hold craft shows around thanksgiving.

I’ve done quite a bit of that myself over the years. :085: Sorry to hear you lost your job, it seems to be a trend on the boards lately.

      Thanks for the welcomes.

I have spent a large portion of my day browsing the boards. Since I plan my menus monthly it has been mostly in the recipe forums.
The way I see it, one new idea or being reminded of something I have forgotten then it helps and I feel better.
I joined more to hang with like minded people and that will help keep me on track and not thinking about all the things I am missing.

When you feel like you’re missing out on something, give us a holler, we’re pretty good at coming up with replacements. One of my things is making copycat recipes for favorite (overpriced) restaurant dishes.

Another is finding ways to buy my regular grocery list, but at about 65%-80% cheaper. (Coupons ,price matching, etc). Obviously I don’t do it everyweek, (although we have a few members that sure do!), but I hate shopping. :091:

It isn’t food so much that I miss… except Starbucks Frappuchinos lol

I love shopping. 100% girly girl.
In another life I didn’t have to be frugal and I wasn’t, my dh made $90k a year.
Then life took a turn and everything changed. We were still ok until the beginning of this year and then it took another turn now we make barely $20k a year.

      Big adjustment.
Vehicles died (2 blew up within a few months of each other), medical things happened, storm damage happened, accidents happened, and wiped us out.
So ALL fun shopping had to stop. I miss it and won’t even pretend I don’t lol

      :039:Welcome to the site.
Ms. Lizz has a really excellent site here. Hope that you can use the time here to over come some of your hard times. The people here are really friendly too.

I enjoy meeting crafty people and learning from them myself.

      Enjoy–Looking forward to your postings….

Welcome to the site. Very sorry to hear about your job and home situation. Hope health has improved, that is a big thing we all have to hold dearly to.

As for saving money this is the goldmine site here. You can find recipes and ideas to save money in so many different ways. You will find many many like minded people who share similiarities, we have been in job loss situations (or in my case soon to face them).

There is a blog spot on here that has been a blessing for saying what you are feeling and gettting great responses to help you through it. If you need to talk we are here for you.

I am so sorry to hear of your situation. I know exactly what you are going through though. My situation is somewhat like yours.

I moved to Indiana from Florida to help my Mom, got involved in house and it went to pits. I recently bankrupted, signed the house back to the bank, moved back to Florida. During this time, I had my youngest daughter 5 weeks early which gave me more than 40k in medical bills, developed asthma and allergies.

I have moved back to the sunshine state to hopefully regain some of my health and to try and get my life back in order for my children. We are struggling right now because only one of us are working (that is equal to the 20k a year) where we were making double that. If there is ever anything I can do for you, know I am here.

Loads of Frugal Love to ya girly!
