You can make rice taste lots of different ways by cooking it with
other ingredients. Think of all the flavors of Rice-a-Roni that are
on the shelves. You can make your rice just as interesting, butwithout all the chemicals! I just experiment rather than use specific
recipes, but here are some ideas:
Use broth or part-broth-part-water when cooking the riceUse canned tomatoes and Italian or Mexican spices
Mixed creamy canned soups with the rice
Add onions, peppers, celery, carrots, broccoli, etc. After the rice is cooked, add some cheese (my kids love this)
Combine with kidney beans, black beans, corn, salsa, etc.
Rice pudding!I also use rice as a base for other foods. For example, put chili
over it and it’s a very filling bowl of food. Or I’ll put rice,
veggies and canned soup in a casserole dish, put some chicken ontop, and then bake it all together.
As you can probably tell, rice is a staple in our house. We buy large
bags of white rice at Costco, bulk brown rice at a grocery store, andeat rice probably 2-3 times a week, at least as often as potatoes.
