Oatmeal is supposed to be really good for helping to lower
cholesterol when eaten daily. Cheerio’s, too.

Other than that, just cut back on the bad types of food, and try to
eat healthier. You don’t need Weight Watchers to tell you that an
apple is a better snack than a bag of chips, right? Try to get more
fresh foods into your diet, and change your meals around to be
      healthier.

Substitute whole milk for fat free when cooking. Use low
fat or fat free margarine to put on things and in recipes.

Cut back on grease, basically. Lean meats are better for you. Bake
      items instead of frying them.

Keep fresh fruits & veggies you like
and will eat in the house. If a snack item you shouldn’t eat is in
the house, you are more likly to eat it, right? So don’t buy it at
      the store.

Take walks every day after dinner. Even 2 blocks is better than
sitting down to watch TV after dinner. After a while, you’ll notice
you can go 3 blocks, then 4.

Don’t push yourself to do it hard. Just
ease into it. You could also try doing this during your lunch hour
      at work, too.

Cut sugary drinks from your diet- soda, juice, kool-aid, etc. Drink
water, and tea’s (green tea IS good for helping you out). Not only
is the sugar bad for you, but caffein in larger doses actually
      inhibits weight loss.

You mention cutting eating out 3x a week to help, but it makes it
sound like you eat out more than that? Eating out isn’t neccessarily
bad on your body. There are MANY healthy alternatives to grabbing a
      steak or a burger.

Most fast food places have lots of salad options.
McDonalds offers juice and tea to drink, as well as bottled water.
Most have fresh fruit available now, too.

Arby’s has fantastic kids meals that are filling enough for an adult
(and cheaper!). They have a regular sandwich (turkey & ham, for
instance), fresh fruit cups, and your choice of milk or juice.
