I also am very conservative about going to the doctor. If my kids have a fever,
I will let them have the fever for at least 24 hours (as long as it is under
102). Fever is the body’s response to whatever is making it sick and raising
the body temp is one way of killing any germs/viruses.I only give a fever
reducer if they really cannot rest or the fever is still going on after 24
hours. If after the first round of fever reducer meds, the fever is still
present than I will call the doctor. We hardly ever see our family doctor. Thankfully, our 5 kids have been
relatively healthy. Right now we are battling fluid in the ears with my 4 yr
old.She doesn’t seem to have any ear infection, but the fluid is thick and is
causing a hearing loss. We had her hearing tested and they do a test to see if
the eardrum is moving when a tone is played and she has almost 0 movement of the
eardrum, indicating fluid. She takes a daily does of Sudafed to help. After a
month on the Sudafed, her hearing improved from a “moderate” hearing loss to
“mild” but there is still no ear drum movement. We go see our family doctor
next week to lay out a possible course of treatment. I am hoping it doesn’t
include tubes in her ears.Teri Woods
