All-American Barbecue Sauce

2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
2 medium Onions — finely chopped
1/2 cup Ketchup
6 tablespoons Brown sugar
6 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup Prepared steak sauce
2 tablespoons Cider vinegar
1/8 teaspoon Hot pepper sauceIn medium-sized saucepan, heat butter over medium-low heat.
Add onions and saute for 5 minutes, but do not allow them to brown.
Stir in ketchup, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, steak sauce, vinegar,
1/2 cup water, and hot pepper sauce. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer,
stirring occasionally, for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, wash and sterilize 2 pint jars.
To sterilize jars, put in a large saucepan and fill pan with hot ( not boiling) water
to 1 inch above the tops of the jars and boil 10 minutes; drain.Pour sauce into hot jars.
Cap, cool, and freeze or refrigerate for 2 to 3 weeks. Makes 1.1/2 to 2 pints.
