i’ve been reading all these posts.

Poor Herlean is really getting clobbered…

Thankfully, I don’t have any small children. Our last remaining

canine child (at least for now) turns 17 in May. She has been ours

(we have been hers?) since she was 2 months old. A few months ago, we

thought we were about to lose her, but it turned out that she wasn’t

eating. Now she gets canned food (over the dry she had lived on all

her life) and gets fed with a spoon. She will not eat from her bowl

on the floor. She also gets table food. I figure any thing that keeps

her healthy is fine (forget the rules and regs). She is almost

blind, but on the whole, this 9 pound poodle mix is healthy. She

sleeps a lot, but that is to be expected. When she does go, I will

certainly mourn her, as we have mourned many others. Our two male

cats have decided they would like canned dog food too (as they are

both at least 1 – 1/2 times Steffi’s weight, we spend a lot of time

      shooing them away.

Herlean, I don’t know what kind of dog you have. It must be one of

the smaller ones to have lived this long. Is it all possible to keep

her segregated from your son for the time being? By the time he is a

toddler, she will definitely stay away from him. Toddlers are death

on pets, especially older ones who are no longer playing or as active

      as they used to be.

In any event, my best wishes for you and your whole family.

      Laine
