Hi, I am new to the group, live in Montana, where wages are at the
low end of the scale.
We have some great 2nd hand stores here. Try looking for your coat
there. Lots of times I find new items or barley worn items. It
sure saves on the budget. I really like to get the name brand
things, you just have to shop the stores.
Also look in their fabric area. It takes l yard of material to make
a pillow case for a standard pillow. This can make a great gift if
you find the material to match the person.
I just made Cranberry Conserve yesterday, placed in small jars and
will give as gifts for Thanksgiving. Total cost was under $5.00 and
I got 6 jars.
Cranberry Conserve
In a large heavy saucepan combine 1 pound raw cranberries (about 4
cups) and
1 1/2 cups water. Bring the liquid to a boil over moderately high
heat and
simmer the mixture for 5-8 minutes or until the berries have popped
and are
tender. Stir in 3 cups sugar, 1 cup crushed pineapple, 1/2 cup
sultanas and one
seedless orange, pith removed and chopped fine, and simmer the
mixture,
stirring occasionally, for 20 minutes. Stir in 1/2 cup chopped
walnuts (I sub
pecans, actually), pour the conserve into sterilized Mason-type
jars, and seal
the
jars with the lids. Makes about 5 cups.
Its hard, but shop wise and it will help
