For Canadian and UK players this is worth a mention.

Whist on Ovation in May 2019 in Alaska I had a $1380 single win on a slot, because we were in US waters I was taxed as the win was over $1300 I was taxed at the going rate (I think it was about $220)

I looked into claiming the tax back (many non US citizens including UK players don’t have to pay tax on gambling) but the IRS wanted for me to send my actual passport to them and could not promise when they would send it back, because it was such a small amount and because we cruise a lot and didn’t want to be without my passport I left it, but kept photos of the paperwork.

In November 2019 after a cruise we spent a few nights in Atlantic City, I had a big win on a slot but again I was taxed, this time $890
This time it was worth claiming back. I was recommended by someone on this group to use US Tax Recovery in Toronto and I have to say they were brilliant.

I sent both the Ovation and Borgata AC tax deduction forms over with my passport after they promised to send my passport back within 7 days which they did, and I’m pleased to say that today they sent a check for $830.89 USD!

Yes, they took $279.11 in fees but crucially that price included them obtaining my own US Tax number (ITIN). Which means that if I have a big win on a slot in the United States / US waters again I can fill a form onboard with my ITIN and instantly have my tax refunded.
      I’m over the moon.
(Please note: the UK does not tax US Citizens on gambling in the UK, hence why the deal exists)
