Charge by the item.
When I was doing this in the late 1990’s, I charged by the piece, either with the ironing or the mending.
It really depends on what the item is. I would charge more for the bigger items, men’s shirt I usually charged between $1.25 to $1.50. Also if they want a lot of starch, charge extra.
I had one lady that wanted everything really stiffly starched, even cordery, so I would hang the clothes outside, spray them wet with the starch and let them dry and then when ironing, spray again. Some items I would spray a couple of times.
As for the mending, again charge by the piece and what is needed to be repaired. I would put patches on men’s jeans and charge $5 for that. Replacing zippers can be tricky as you will need to do a lot of ripping.
