My Dominos Pizza store does this all the time. The first time I saw it, I called and spoke to the manager. I remember my bill was $15? and the credit charge was $18. He said that after three days it would show up with the correct amount. I did. It’s my understanding that it was because I paid for it with my card (debit, I believe) over the phone, then had the order picked up. I don’t know how many other places do it.

That is 100% ILLEGAL. They have No Right to “HOLD” more than the
purchase amount that you are debiting. I would Highly Suggest you
contact your Bank and your Local District Attorney as this is the
equivalent of THEFT.
Or Switch to a Decent Bank. Our Credit Union Posts ALL Transactions
(even Pending Debits) and I check them ALL every day to see if their
are any “HOLDS” ever placed. I would Sue their ASS off for that.
