If birds are annihilating your strawberries before you can pick them, here’s a simple trick you can use year after year! paint rocks to look like strawberries and place them in the garden while the berries are still blossoming, by the time the real strawberries come out, the birds will be so discouraged from pecking at rocks that they’ll move on, saving your strawberries for your own family!

if you’re not really sure how to paint rocks to look like strawberries, here is a fantastic step by step tutorial by lee wismer (by the way- photo credit goes to lee as well!)

      1. Gather a bunch of small, flat rocks, or purchase some (online or at a local landscaping place)
      2. Paint the rocks a solid red and allow them to fully dry. If you’re painting bunch of rocks, spread them out on a piece of cardboard, spray paint them, let them dry, then flip the over and repeat for the other side.
      3. Dip a toothpick in black paint and add “strawberry seeds” all over the rocks
      4. If you want, you can use yellow paint to add accent to the seeds, making them stand out a bit more.
      5. Paint green “leaves” on the top of each rock, let them dry
      6. Spray them with a sealer to waterproof them before placing them in the garden with your strawberry plants

Put these STRAWBERRY PAINTED STONES around your strawberry plants and when birds come to investigate they will only find hard untasty rocks. Then when your plants produce juicy ripe berries the birds will still think that the berries are stone and will avoid eating them.

Another trick that helps keep birds away from strawberries is to add a few rubber snakes around the plants. You have to periodically move them around, but it does seem to help.
