OK we had the same problem with my son and he is now 4 1/2 and has been
potty trained completely since the end of March last year. My daughter wasn
t that much of a challenge when we worked with her but she was about 2 1/2
almost 3 I think when she was done with diapers. I tried everything and
nothing would work so don’t feel like you are the only one on that issue.
When I would ask doctors about it they would just tell me that I shouldn’t
worry about it until after he turns 4, if at that point he isn’t wanting to
do it than you can start to worry.
What we did with both of our kids is we
told them that once they were completely out of the diapers that they could
pick out a package of underwear that they wanted. Everyone told me to try
stickers on the lid of the toilet, cherrios for him to sink in the toilet,
bribe him with something that he wanted for when he did go potty in the
toilet, let him wear underwear and if he wets them make him keep them on for
awhile…I could go on and on but I won’t. The main thing that I learned is
that he will do it when he is ready to and not to worry about it because
than you are causing yourself unneeded stress.
It also won’t hurt him if he
misses out on nursery school or stuff like that. I wish you luck and wish
that I could offer you more help but the fact is that I fought with my son
for 2 years and he did it when he wanted to do it no matter what I said and
I was continuously sick from stress. I will happen don’t worry.
