I love Hydrangeas- so much that I bring them in during the winter months to enjoy them year round. They have a tendency to thrive in rich soil with lots of light, but will still do okay in partial shade.
It wasn’t until I brought mine indoors that friends started commenting about all the different colors that our hydrangeas were when theirs were just blue.Control Hydrangeas Coloring -Blue, Pink or Purple
Well, here’s a tip- you can totally control the color of your hydrangeas!!
the color is determined by the acidity or pH level in the soil. Here’s a chart:To turn Hydrangeas from Pink to Blue
1 Tablespoon Aluminum Sulphate
1 gallon of waterCombine and water the plant regularlyTo turn Hydrangeas from Blue to Pink
1 cup of Garden Lime
Sprinkle around base of a blue plantTo turn Hydrangeas from Red to Royal Purple
Apply 1 tablespoon of aluminum sulphate to a gallon of water and use it to water a cardinal red Hydrangea plant. This will turn the plant purple.
Aluminum Sulphate (or Alum Powder- same thing!)
Aluminum Sulphate is an ideal material to use in this project as it helps to lower the pH of the soil, which in turn makes it more acidic. This creates a favorable environment for blue hydrangeas and allows them to bloom with a rich blue color. It also helps plants absorb nutrients from the soil more efficiently, ensuring that they receive all the essential elements required for healthy growth. In addition, Aluminum Sulphate can be used over time without any adverse effects on plants or their surrounding environments. As such, it is an excellent choice for those wishing to control and customize the colors of their hydrangeas!
Lime
Garden lime is an effective material for this project as it helps to raise the pH level of the soil, which in turn makes it more alkaline. This creates a favorable environment for pink hydrangeas and allows them to bloom with a vibrant pink color.
It also helps plants absorb essential nutrients from the soil more efficiently, ensuring that they receive all the necessary elements required for healthy growth. Furthermore, garden lime can be used over time without any negative impacts on plants or their surrounding environments. As such, it is an ideal choice for those wishing to control and customize the colors of their hydrangeas! If you’re not sure what your soil pH level is, you can test garden alkalinity.
The materials used in this project are ideal for achieving the desired hydrangea colors. Aluminum Sulphate helps to lower the pH of soil, creating a favorable environment for blue hydrangeas and allowing them to bloom with a rich blue color. Garden Lime aids in raising the pH level of soil, creating an optimum setting for pink hydrangeas to bloom with vibrant pink hues. Finally, combining aluminum sulphate and water can be used to create royal purple colored flowers on cardinal red plants. All three materials are safe and effective when it comes to controlling and customizing the colors of your hydrangeas without any adverse effects on plants or their surrounding environments!
Also, you can split your them and root hydrangeas from leaves too.Attachments:
