    Homemade Litmus Test

    2 jarsful of violet blossoms
    boiling water
    lemon juice
    baking soda

    Fill any size jars with violet blossoms; fill with boiling water to top,
    seal and steep overnight. Divide contents of one jar into three containers.
    Add lemon juice to one. It will turn purple/red; this is your acid
    indicator.

    Add baking soda to the other jar. It will turn green/yellow;
    this is your base indicator. Pour contents of the other jar into as many
    jars as you have soil samples to test. Match colors to indicator.
