      Bleach (heavy-duty) recipe

      1 gallon water

      2 cups chlorinated lime

      3 cups washing soda

      Mix in an old plastic bucket. Stir well. Let stand, uncovered, for 24

      hours. Strain into storage containers. Use as any commercial bleach.

      Gentle Fabric Soap recipe

      1 cup soap flakes

      4 cups boiling water

      1/2 cup borax

      Combine soap flakes and borax in a large pan and pour the boiling

      water over the mixture, stirring until soap is dissolved. Cool, then

      store in a plastic squeeze or pump container and keep in the laundry


      To use, measure out 1/4 cup for each quart of water. Add items to be

      washed and agitate them around. The mixture should produce suds. If

      it does not, add another squirt. If your delicate items are heavily

      soiled, soak them for 1 or 2 hours in the cleaning solution before

      laundering them.


      Homemade Laundry Soap recipe

      1 bar Ivory Soap (plain, pure soap – no fragrance)

      1 cup washing soda (not baking soda)

      Fill a large bucket or container with hot tap water. Set aside.

      Grate the bar of soap into a saucepan. Add water just to cover the

      grated soap. Heat the mixture, stirring constantly, until the soap is

      dissolved. Add the soap-water mixture to the hot water in the bucket.

      Stir to combine. Then add washing soda and stir. As this cools it

      will turn into a white gelatinous soap. The thickness will vary

      depending on the size of container used.

      To use: Pour one cup into soiled laundry load.

      This bucket of soap does a lot of laundry for a very small price and

      more soap is just 15 minutes away. One batch washes 24 loads of



      Laundry Pre-Treat Spray recipe

      1/2 cup household ammonia

      1/2 gallon water

      2 tablespoons Soft Soap

      1/2 cup white vinegar

      1/4 cup baking soda

      Put all ingredients in a spray bottle and shake well. Spray all hard-

      to-clean areas of clothing before washing.

      2 cups pure soap flakes or powder

      Laundry Starch recipe

      1 cup cornstarch

      1/2 cup wheat starch

      Stir cornstarch and wheat starch together and cover tightly to store.

      To use, dissolve 2 teaspoons in 1 cup water. Apply to damp fabric

      with a spray bottle or dilute with more water and moisten fabrics in

      a starch bath.
