Au jus is a dipping juice/sauce for sandwiches like French dips. It’s also great to pour over meat/steaks. I like to have it, but I hate to buy the expensive packets at the store. Here’s how to make your own homemade Au Jus Mix
Au Jus Mix Recipe
You Need:
12 beef bouillon cubes (or 4 tbsp. beef bouillon granules)
4 tsp. onion powder
2 tsp. parsley
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
4 tbsp. cornstarchPlace all of the above ingredients in a blender or food processor. Process until the mixture turns into a fine powder. Store mix in an airtight jar or ziploc bag.
How to Prepare the Au Jus
In a saucepan combine 4 1/2 tsp. of the au jus mix with 2 cups of cold water and bring to a boil, mixing well, reduce heat and simmer a few minutes until thickened.
Note: 4 1/2 tsp. is equal to one McCormick french dip au jus mix packet that you would buy at any grocery store. If you are wondering if you can freeze au jus, yes you can! Just freeze any leftovers in freezer containers like these inexpensive freezer containers you can order from Amazon. Leftover au jus will also keep in the refrigerator for up to a week.
