And a Blessed Yule to your family as well Liss!

What Creative, fun, homemade gifts would you make if you won this Fantastic Nesco Food Dehydrator?

I’d make some of those homemade dip ornaments I saw on your FB page last week! I’d also like to make my own Deer Jerky with some of the meat we have in the freezer.

We’d probably use this most to dry herbs from our herb garden and give packages of seasoning mixes to our friends and family. They’re so expensive to purchase and between this and a small spice grinder, we’d be all set for gifts next year!

A new dehydrator would allow me to dry the fruits and vegetables we grow to store and share with family and friends. We live in a repressed area where sometimes food is a premium that some can little afford. By having this, I could dry during the harvest months to share during the winter months….

If I won thid dehydrator, I would love to make cinnamon ornaments. You mix cinnamon with applesauce into a thick dough, roll out and cut with cookie cutters. then let dry on a cooling rack for days and days…with a dehydrator, I would be able to have these dried in just a day.

I would also have enough room to many a lot of these for the teachers and all grandparents.

I would make fruit leathers for my kids and students to snack on. Dried apple chips, these are my latest favorite snack. Dried strawberries from my daughter’s plants.

Dried fruits for oatmeal add ins. And I could finally try some of the new raw foods recipes that I see but can’t “cook” because I don’t have a dehydrator.

What Creative, fun, homemade gifts would you make if you won this Fantastic Nesco Food Dehydrator?

I have a very old dehydrator that I have dried my herbs in and given as gifts my family loves the fact that they know exactly where the herbs came from and that it is fresh. I also dried fruit which was a big hit with everyone including my son. I would prefer him to eat these for snacks than other non healthy treats.

I found some recipes on this site that I would love to try but my dehydrator does not have a fan and although I was able to use it I have put it away because it takes so long and is very big and bulky so I don’t have room for it.

I am going to have my very own garden this year and plan on growing a lot of herbs and vegetables which would be very nice dried for the winter. I would love to make mixes for soups with dehydrated vegetables to give as gifts for everyone.

I am eating healthier now, so drying food would fit right in to my new healthy life style. I like to make health snacks for when my kids come over on Holidays. No chips or soda. I would love a dehydrator so I can utilize all the fruits and vegetables when they are in
season so I can have them whenever I like. We have a banana and mango tree and I dry these and keep them for cakes. Wow this would be so nice.

I would make homemade deer jerky for family and friends!

O.eould use Bhtapes cranberries, apricots, mangoes and apples and the list goes on of fruit. My son is a boy scout and my husband is a leader and for long hikes protein and carbohydrate rich trail mix is a must but so many fruits are filled with chemicals.and I want them to have tasty, satisfying and healthy trail mix to keep up their energy the long trails.

      question of the day:

[/b]what creative, fun, homemade gifts would you make if you won this fantastic nesco food dehydrator?

i know that everyone seems to want to make jerky but i really want to try some of these dehydrated veggie soups and seasoning mixes! i’d love to make the homemade fruit powders to add to our yogurt or oatmeal everyday. I’d love to come up with some of my own homemade dip mixes too.

I’ve used my electric oven to make jerky and it was ok but it seemed pretty expensive on the electric bill so maybe the dehydrator is the ticket

Happy Yule! The dehydrator would make my whole household happy – banana and papaya and pineapple chips to keep the angora bunnies happy and healthy (helps prevent woolblock); jerky for the dogs, a good way to save all those tomatoes. For the kids, fruit roll ups!

It would be great to make fruit leather from the autumn olive berries and reduce the spread of that invasive tree. Thanks for running the contest, Liss!

I love dehydrators, I grow my own herbs and make all my own spice mixes, love giving these as gifts. Also, love making fruit rolls, dehydrate veggies to make my own cooking mixes, they make nice gifts as well. The fruit rolls can be used to decorate cookies for a healthier cookie.

If I won this I would use this to make some of the recipe’s I have learned to make in the raw foods class that I attend monthly with my fiance’ Jayme. It is not all salads and vegetables. There are recipes for spaghetti and meatballs and german chocolate cake.

There are also others like meatloaf or pasta and sauce with sausages. All of this is made without a bit of meat or eggs or real pasta. Some of it needs to be warmed up but an oven is too hot in temperature so this would work perfectly.

The food can be warmed to about 110 degrees but any warmer than that it would ruin the nutritional value of the food. I would also use it to dry out fruits and vegetables. Banana chips are an amazing snack that are so expensive in the stores.

I would LOVE it if I won this.

I would make all natural trail mix in decorated jars as gifts for my friends and family. The uses for a good dehydrator are endless if you use your imagination and know how to vacuum seal the foods you create.

After I moved to NY from MI, all of my grown children complained how they missed my homemade soups, and soup is almost impossible to send through the mail, but… with a dehydrator, I could make up bags of soup starter that would mail easily! I would also send them dehydrated veggies from my garden, another item they’ve missed.

I have always wanted to dehydrate my own fresh vegetables. I love home made soups and getting the fresh stuff in season –esp. from others garden– and saving it until the time when we want to make the soups would be awesome. Plus I have missionary friends who eat as much home made as possible and this would help me to help them stock up.

Oooh, this would be fun! Dried orange slices for room deodorizer/decor, dried apple crafts, the applesauce/cinnamon ‘dough’ things (when they are dry, they smell so good, and the scent lasts ages!), salt dough ornaments, munchies like jerky and dried fruits, and dried veggies for soup for people like my mom, who really don’t want anything that’s not useful… There is so much I could make with one of these babies!!!
