For my kids parties, we decorated the mini pumpkins for the smaller kids and make caramel apples for the older kids. Both are crafty and fun for the kids. Both were a big hit.

The caramel apples are really a science project since you show them how the caramel turns soft when heated and hardens up when cooled, etc. With the pumpkins, you can give a blurb about recycling, etc. I always save odd items, bits and pieces and used them (buttons, pipe cleaners, yarn, ribbons etc) Our elementary school frowns on “just a kids party” and wants it to be educational so I had to get crafty with ideas.
