First if you vehicle has a trip odometer you can do this fairly simply by taking the miles traveledand divide this miles drvien by the number of gallons you have put in the gas tank. This will mean you have to either write down the number of gallons you put in the tank at each gas stop or use your reciept it usually tels you how many gallons you have put in. This can tell you how many miles/gallon you are getting. I used to do this all the time with my first windstar I also could tell you how many gallons i was putting in as it was a 20 gallon tank. I drove the clerks crazy as I knew how many gallons I needed but not how much it would cost.
