I was interested in this post, so asked my hubby who has been in power production all his life. He said that all fuels have to be refined from crude oil. diesel takes less refining than gasoline, but they both have to be refined.

diesel is not a by-product of gasoline. just another type of fuel. but they all need refining but to different degrees.

      i did not know this.

      >also, on the fuel note…diesel takes no refining, but we pay way
      >more then gas engines…doesn’t make sense. seems we should be
      >looking into our government instead of looking at our *neighbors* as
      >the problem.
      >loree in id
actually, it’s a byproduct of refining gasoline. the reason it’s
gone up faster than gasoline is that diesel is more in demand.

personal vehicles use it, along with the commercial transport trucks,
      trains, and heavy construction vehicles.
