I have to tell you, this weekend we have 2 birthdays in our home and I had preplanned and unfortunately prepaid for the camping trip to the ocean. While I was stocking our old camper when the news break came across with some douche bag oil company giant with padded pockets came on noting that tomorrow the prices may go upwards of $6 a gallon!!

So I loaded up my truck and 4 gas cans and headed to the gas station, where I patiently waited my turn, I was 27th in line, I kid you not!

The gas was $3.61 a gallon, this morning, on the news, the same station is now $4.87 PER gallon!

Over the past week in Brookings, SD here is the cost for gas:
Monday 9-29-08 $3.49
Friday 10-3-08 $3.29
Tuesday 10-7-08 $3.19
Today 10-8-08 $2.99

I am thrilled. The local grocery store sells gas. If you buy something first you can save a certain amount on gas anything from 5 cents up to 17 cents a gallon.

Gas today is $2.98 and at the local Walmart take 3 more cents off , if you use a gift card at the pump.

My Dh was saying it needs to come down even more– He travels about a 100 miles a day = 50 miles to work and of course 50 miles home. This really adds up by the end of the month. Hopefully we will have a little more cash in our pockets at the end of the this month and months to come….

Yeh, I’m really excited because Giant Foodstores has this deal that for every $100 in groceries you buy you get 10 cents off a gallon in gas. The best part is that the points accumulate based on the “price” of the item, not what you actually pay. So, I go in and buy – for example – $100 worth of groceries, but with coupons I only spend about $50.

I still get the 100 points! This period I’ve gotten 500 points, so I will get 50 cents off per gallon! (Can you tell how excited I am!!!

The way that Kroger and Randalls do their 10 cents off per gallon for $100 in groceries is that for every $100 you spend you get 10 cents off per gallon for 1 fillup. So if I end up spending in a month $400 I get 4 fillups with 10 cents off per gallon. They too allow multiple purchases to accumulate the $100 in groceries total and base it on the price of the item.

Most places have to pre-buy a set amount of heating fuel during the summer. We contracted to buy our Propane at $2.89 a gallon for 1000 gallons to ensure we’d have it. Now as prices come down we’re wondering how bad we got burned only to find out even our coop is still paying the agreed to price that was set over the summer!

If you’ve noticed, Truckers aren’t sharing in this lower price for fuel either! I count my blessings of lower gas prices while we have them. I know sooner or later it’ll head back up.

Apparently our local gas stations can’t make up their mind…it’s like everyday is a new adventure of the dueling gas prices. Today it’s came down to $3.08. Mind you, I’m not complaining that the price has came down a tiny bit, just wish it would stay down consistently.
