      Another tip- we had a section of carpeting in our home that we wanted
      to get rid off, cut it into strips and lay it between the rows of the
      garden. It was great for picking early peas without getting covered in
      mud. (Hence saving money on laundry washing, drying as well as
      cleaning time!)

      Another idea would be to spread hay or straw between the rows.
