We dropped our home phone and used only the cell phone for several months. We used the cell phone for alllong distance calls long before we actually gave up the land line.
Giving up satellite TV was not so hard. Being without email was much more difficult.

We are in a few groups( homeschool group etc) that communicate primarily through email. More than once I drove all the way to town for a class only to find it had been rescheduled. The notice had been sent out by email.

I had to pay for postage to mail things that could have been emailed. I was also cut off from internet bargains on used curriculum, ink/ toner , ebay etc etc etc.
We finally realized that giving upsatellite was indeed saving us money but giving up internet was not. Today we have a land line phonefor internet and a cell phone for emergencies/long distance.

No plans to have satellite again.

we completely dropped our long distance,my husband has a companycell with 10,000 minutes, and I haveone that has roll overs that have accumulated to 4200. I kept thelocal for satalite and security. Butthey are on the chopping block if need be.

I think that once a child gets used to not having the tv they will learnto doother things. i can always go back to work or do odd jobs, but we have always felt it was important to stay home with our children. so to do that we sacrafice what weneed to.
