French Toast
4 eggs
1 tsp sugar, optional
dash salt
1 cup milk
8 to 10 slices white bread
butter
maple syrup or other syrup
Break the eggs into a wide, shallow bowl or pie plate and beat them lightly with a fork or whisk.
Stir the sugar, salt, and milk into the beaten eggs.
Coat a skillet or griddle with a thin layer of butter, shortening, or oil. Place it over medium-low heat.
Place the bread slices, one at a time, into the bowl or plate. Let the bread soak up egg mixture for a few seconds and then carefully turn to coat the other side.
Transfer the egg-coated bread slices to the hot skillet or griddle.Heat slowly until bottom is golden brown. Turn and brown the other side.
Serve French toast hot with butter and syrup.
Add bacon or sausage and fruit or berries for a hearty breakfast. Serves 4
