The Michigan Library website is giving out a free pass to their library, you can have access to the (almost) entire Chilton’s library car manual/repair collection by going to their Library website below:

3. Click on the Blue Login Button located under the words “eResources Kids Library Staff Educators”
4. At the prompt where it says “Login using Michigan Driver’s License or State ID number,” enter the following:
5. C4535896486
6. do not fill in any other information, just the license ID, then hit submit
7. Please don’t include spaces in the beginning or end of code.

This is not an actual drivers license code but a free code so you can enter their site for free!

What is Chilton?

If you’ve just stumbled across this thread you might be wondering what the big deal is, what is chilton? Chilton books are step by step manuals to repair every aspect of a vehicle.

Chiltons are great books and I highly recommend them! There is a ton of information in the Chiltons that you can’t find anywhere else. And if you’re mechanically inclined these books will take your knowledge to the next level. The best thing about Chiltons (compared to Haynes) is that they include color pictures and diagrams for everything!

They cover how to fix both foreign and domestic cars/trucks . Another nice feature about this series is that it has five different levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced and each level covers more and more complicated repairs (for example: the first book talks about replacing tires – Intermediate covers alignments).

hello thank you. I telling you I just went to that Michigan elibrary site looking to check out chilton free manuals and that access is shut down due to excessive unauthorized out of state users. they no longer accept library card or driver’s license #.

now they track your IP location and if you’re not in the state forget it.

so check it out and change your website accordingly. thank you, Kai

No worries my friend, simply access the Michigan Library website using a Michigan Proxy IP address.

HTTP proxy configuration on Windows 7
First, open the Start Menu and click Control Panel .
Then, click Network and Internet .
Click on Internet Options.

Nearly all large city public libraries link to chilton manuals for free, but you usually need to have your library card (also free).

Here’s how to access Chilton Manuals online in Roswell, New Mexico
1 Visit the library link: https://www.elportalnm.org/
2 It will redirect you to New Mexico State Library’s El Portal webpage
3 Scroll to Row #2 and look for ChiltonLibrary.com “Authoritative automotive repair covers the most popular vehicles of the past 30 years.”
4 Click on that and then enter your city and zipcode.

If you’re not in the New Mexico area you’ll need to use a proxy to make it appear as though you are. Instructions for that are back in the first post of this thread.
