Rice – it works with only a little margarine if need be.
Home made tacos – both masa (corn flour) and dried beans are cheap.
Hamburger casseroles – I use 73 per cent hamburger and then only half what
is called for.
BTW, here in Great Falls, Wal-Mart has an off-brand 5 pound box of patties
for $4.95. 85 per cent hamburger is going for about $1.59/pound. To
determine which is the best deal, divide the percentage into the price per
pound. At those prices, you are paying $1.36/pound of meat in the 73 per
cent type, and $1.87 for the 85 per cent type. If you carefully drain the
73 per cent type, you end up with 85 per cent type. If you rinse it with
hot tap water, you get about the 92 per cent type, which around here is
going for over $2.00 per pound.
