Essential Oils

I have seen so many mentions lately of essential oils, but I’ve never used them.
Where do you get them, and about how much do they usually cost? I am assuming
that they cannot be used in food items, but only for adding fragrance to bath
oils, etc.? Would they be poisonous if a child were to eat it because it
“smells good”?
