Sally, I am a saver. I credit my good shopping skills to my mother, who did a great job with her family and teaching me!
My biggest savings comes from groceries. I spend $700 or less per month. While that sounds like a lot to me, I have to remind myself that is feeding 12 at home, plus I often send a few bags of groceries per month to my daughter in college.
I save lots by cooking from scratch. I make my own pancake, muffin, cookie, biscuit, bread and cake mixes. I make my own laundry soap, dishwasher soap, candles, bath soap and I put additives in the cheapest shampoo to customize it.
My children are always dressed nice, but I try to buy re-sale, quality clothing, or I buy at outlet stores.
I really wish I could find a way to save on my electric bill. grrr.
We spend far more than the average large family on vacations and theme parks. But I believe they will enjoy those memories for a lifetime. That’s kinda my general saving/spending plan. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask!
