I grew up on meat and potatoes as did so many of us. When I first got married I would use 2 pounds of meat in a pot full of chili or spagetti. But my husband complained and I started cutting back a little at a time til eventually I did 1 pound for years.
Then I got it down to 1/2 pound eventually. I have increased the veggies a TON. But since I have struggled with my weight for years I am really trying to reduce the amount of pasta we eat.
What’s killing us is the paper products. I’ve just not learned how to do without paper towels and we use a huge amount of toilet paper. In fact, we go through about 2 rolls daily!

Subject: Re: Budget101.com : Re:Dollar Amount for Grocery Budgetwe have a family of 7 here. We have dropped our grocery billed considerably. We were spending close to $1200 a month. My husband had gastric bypass surgery last month and eats minimal meals. A large portion of our previous months bill was meat items. my husband was a big meat lover. Over 40% of our bill was meat.
We’ve reduced that down to 15% of our bill now. My kids and myself our not big meat eaters and we’ve been buying more pasta and fruit and vegetables.

We have a family of 8 and we are currently trying to stick with 800 per month or 200$ per week, whichever works….This means no extras and going without alot of stuff….We are down from our original figure of 2000$ per month! Not sure if we will hit our goal this month or not! Anxious to hear from more big families out there and how you do it!!!
