      • 6 to 8 hours

      ⚒️ Materials Needed:

      • (4) 4×8′ sheets of 1/2″ plywood
      • (4) 2×4 boards (8′ long)
      • (2) 1×6 boards (8′ long)
      • (1) box of 1 1/2″ wood screws
      • (1) box of 2″ wood screws
      • Wood glue
      • Sandpaper
      • Wood stain or paint (optional)
      • Polyurethane finish (optional)

      🔧 Tools Required:

      • Circular saw or table saw
      • Power drill
      • Tape measure
      • Stud finder
      • Level
      • Clamps
      • Nail gun or hammer and finish nails (optional)

      ✍️ Step-by-Step Instructions

      Step 1: Measure Your Wall

Measure the height and width of your pantry wall to ensure your shelving unit will fit comfortably.

      Step 2: Cut Vertical Dividers

      Cut vertical slats from plywood:

      • Quantity: 20–25 (depending on how many rows you want)
      • Size: 4″ wide x 48″ high (can be adjusted for your wall height)

Step 3: Cut Top and Bottom Shelves

These act as the top and base of each can lane:

      • Quantity: 10–12 (for top and bottom rows)
      • Size: 4″ deep x length of unit (or break into multiple sections for easier handling)

Step 4: Assemble Individual Can Columns

      1. Attach vertical dividers spaced ~5″ apart to fit standard cans.
      2. Screw and glue bottom runners (horizontal shelves) to the base.
      3. Attach top boards to secure the tops of each track.
      4. For added strength, add a plywood back panel and secure it with screws.

Step 5: Create the Gravity Feed (Optional)

      To make cans roll forward:

      • Angle the bottom shelf slightly downward (~5 degrees).
      • Add a front lip (1″ high) to prevent cans from rolling out.

      Step 6: Build Side Shelving

Add fixed or adjustable side shelves to store dry goods and boxed items.

      • Use 1×6 boards for shelves.
      • Add supports with 2×4 brackets under each shelf.

      Step 7: Sand & Finish

      • Sand all edges smooth.
      • Apply wood stain or paint as desired.
      • Seal with polyurethane for easy cleaning.

      Step 8: Mount to Wall

      • Use stud finder to locate studs.
      • Secure entire unit to the wall with 2″ screws into studs.
      • Check level before final tightening.

      📏 Tips for Success:

      • Use plastic bin containers for cereals, oats, and grains.
      • Label each column for easy identification.
      • Store cans by category (soup, veggies, fruit, etc).
      • Use clear containers on open shelves to keep dry goods visible.
