I used to have a local mechanic, who was very skilled, very honest and
trustworthy. He came highly recommended and he did fantastic work on our
families vehicles for many years. Then, he retired. And we moved. How do we
find a new one? Not sure. Fortunately, when my car was past fixing and pouring
money into it, he was honest enough to tell us that he would not work on it and
take my money when the car was almost dead. So, I found a newer car and he
inspected it for me before I bought it.
The few things that I have needed to have done since to this car, I have taken
to the dealer for a couple of things and to a local repair shop for a few
things.
I think it depends on what is being done. Call first and ask for a written
estimate. Ask if they have any experience with the particular type of repair
that you need done.
If you have a coupon, which some dealerships have, that may help out.

Whats your opinion on getting your car fixed?
I have a limited amount of money so a fixit place will be alot cheaper
then taking my car to a dealership for repairs
