Crook Pot Apple Butter
Put 3 quarts of apples, sliced thin, in a crock pot and cook overnight on high. Next morning, add 2 teaspoons cinnamon, 3 cups sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cloves. Cook all day on low.
Tastes like old-fashioned apple butter that is cooked in copper kettle. You can use applesauce if you do not have time to prepare the apples.(unsweetened applesauce). The crock pot makes it possible for apples to cook a long time without being stirred.

I love to make this around this time of the year. It must be a holiday thing or something. It just seems to go with the theme of things.
I also like useing applesauce, it’s cheaper and easier for me. As it cooks it well turn a dark rich brown color, that’s when you know it’s done, and then place in jars, (that have been in a hot water bath), and then give them as a gift. - November 17, 2008 at 7:26 pm #403802

bettylovell…water is not necessary as the apples have enough moisture;-D - September 11, 2015 at 5:32 am #462178

Can you make it without the cloves? I cannot stand the smell or taste of cloves. I forget if you said or not so I may just be asking something you already said (oops) how long does it last after its made?

mrskorba…cloves are not a requirement, only an enhancement for those that like cloves;-D

How long is it good for after you make it? Do you need to put it in the fridge right away? - September 14, 2015 at 11:19 pm #462204

mrskorba…you do need to refrigerate right away unless you decide to can or freeze the apple butter. Refrigerating it should be good for 8-10 days (if it lasts that long! LOL!) Canning as you know lasts longer;-D Freezing it works, but when you defrost, it needs to be stirred well as it tends to separate.
Defrosted apple butter still tastes great as long as you stir it well after defrosting. And there’s no need to stir it after that…once is all it needs!

Thank you! I have no idea how to can anything, thats my father in laws domain! His name is Russell Korba, We call him Russell Stewart, He cooks, cans, sews, paints, crafts, makes sets and costumes for plays, he can sing, act, he really is a jack of all trades.he has a super fancy sewing machine that embroiders, he used to make sweatshirts and bags like totes and sell them at craft shows and stuff. i’m so jealous. ive asked him to teach me how to use a sewing machine and he just doesn’t have time.
lol i’ve gone over there with a pair of jeans coming apart at the seams that fell apart on the way over there and he just ran downstairs and fixed them right up. ugh im so jelly that other people can do anything like i’ve mentioned above. it’s so not fair.
i can sing and i used to be able to decorate cakes, now i shake too much for that. 🙁 i did download a free kindle book from here on how to can! 😉 - September 16, 2015 at 10:36 pm #462224

mrskorba…so sorry that you are having trouble doing things;-/ There’s a ton of information pertaining to lots of cooking techniques and preserving so be sure to take a look at all of the forums;-D About the sewing…I would suggest visiting some of your local (family-type) shops that sell sewing machines. They are usually glad to offer lessons, especially if you purchase a machine! lol!
sewing is not that hard! my dm was an exceptional seamstress and made her own patterns. she made all of my clothes until i was about 12 and wanted to sew myself.
Unfortunately, her teaching technique did not work well for me, so I rebelled and taught myself. I don’t recommend this method for everyoneI encourage you to explore what’s available to you in your community and to get busy!!!
