Costco question

oh good…I wasnt sure on large purchase items. I know when people from Oregon come to washington if they show their ID they do not have to pay tax….and I know when i go to Oregon I dont pay tax but I dont normally buy large purchases like this. I know cars if you buy out of state you dont pay tax until you come home and try to liscence it..then you pay the tax anyways..

I believe you pay whatever sales tax of where you are – for instance, if I go to Florida on vacation and there is no sales tax, I go to Costco, I don’t pay sales tax, but if I go to where you live I pay your sales tax – you don’t pay sales tax on your home address, that would be a total mess all over the country if that were the case – seems each state has their own rules and regulations with their own tax

I am curious…I live in Washington state that has a large sales tax. Almost 9%. My boyfriend..(soon to be fiance/then husband after this..LOL) and I found a ring I really want at costco. He has saved up enough money and we figured it would also be several hundred just in sales tax. We have a gold costco card so we will get 2% back at the end of the year….but I figured we could go to Oregon and buy it at their costco since there is no sales tax. Now since we are using our costco card that says we live in Washington etc…are we going to have to pay the sales tax? I just want to make sure we wont have to pay it if we drive the 3 hours each way to the closest costco in Oregon(even with gas etc we will still save Hundreds$$). We will be paying cash but we still have record because of how costco has membership cards…
