Classic Sausage Lasagna
1/2 lb lean ground beef
1/2 lb Italian sausage
1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
1/2 tbs salt
1/8 tsp black pepper
2 tbs parsley, chopped
1 garlic clove, crushed
8-oz can crushed tomatoes
6 lasagna noodles
6-oz cans tomato paste
8-oz ricotta cheese
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup water
1 tsp white sugar
3/4 cup mozzarella cheese
3/4 tsp dried basil
1/3 cup grated parmesan
1/4 tsp fennel seeds
In a large skillet or pan, begin to cook the sausage over a medium heat.
Cook until meat is brown. Add in the tomato paste, tomato sauce, water and crushed tomatoes. Stir everything together and let simmer for 5 minutes.
Add in the basil and fennel seeds, salt, Italian seasoning, sugar, pepper, and parsley into pan. Stir till everything is combined, cover, and leave it to cook for 1.5 hours. Stir occasionally.
In a separate pot, add water and salt. Turn heat to high and boil water. Once water boils, put lasagna noodles into water and cook until tender.
Drain noodles and immediately rinse with cold water. Set aside and grab a new bowl and put in the ricotta cheese, egg, parsley and a dash of salt. Mix this together until everything is combined and then preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
Spoon out sauce into a 8X8 pan and arrange lasagna noodles on top of it. Spread them out evenly and then spread the cheese mixture you just made on top of that. Then add 1/3 of the mozzarella cheese you have, but cut it into slices so it’s spread evenly.
Repeat the process until all layers are built. Cover with foil and place in the oven. Bake for 25 minutes.
Remove cover and cook for an additional 25 minutes. Remove and let cool for 15 minutes. Cover top with Parmesan cheese and serve.
