I saw this awesome flowering christmas cactus tree and wanted to share a simple way to make your own.
Image Credit to Pinterest I’ve seen several posts about how the plant is grafted. It’s not grafted at all, that’s a flat out Lie.
How to Make Multiple Plants look like a Flowering Tree
First of all, this consists of multiple plants, not just one. The center of the plant is a cactus. As you can see from the metal posts sticking out of the soil, the other plants (the christmas cactus) are actually held in place by plant pot guides. The guide is hidden behind the tall center cactus called a paddle cacti, or spineless prickly pear cactus.
You can make your own and use small 5″ or 6″ pots, or you can use a large one. The one pictured above comes in 5 or 6 foot size at Tractor supply and home depot. If you can’t find a guide or don’t like the price of them (after all, they do run about $100!!), you can use the plant guides that cost a few dollars each.
You’ll need to bend the metal to open it up to hold a 4″ or 5″ pot. Luckily, christmas cactus plants aren’t overly heavy. OR, you can use a short wooden stake, paint it green and screw in wall mount plant pots to the stake to give the illusion of a plant tree. The plants dangle over it, hiding the pot and the pot holders, completing the illusion. You could also potentially just zip tie the plant holders to a piece of rebar to make it even smaller and easier to conceal.
