Many of you will be traveling during Thanksgiving and other upcoming holidays. I thought it would be nice if we could put together as many frugal/ low cost ideas to help entertain kids along the way. (Even ideas for saving money on long trips on food/hotels, etc.)
All of your ideas & suggestions are greatly appreciated by those traveling, present company included.I’ll start this thread:
One of our favorite traveling tips is to make homemade “Books” for the kids using inexpensive binders (walmart) and plastic “sheets”. (I bought a pack of 50 at walmart for $2.47) I then printed out Mazes, Search word puzzles, license plate games, etc that I found online on various homeschool sites, and slipped the pages into these plastic sleeves.
I used the plastic sleeves for 2 reasons… 1.
They are snack/juice resistant to sticky fingers & 2. The kids can use “washable” markers or dry erase markers and re-use their books during the entire trip. Each book was geared to the child receiving it, with some of his favorite characters on the cover and throughout, notes to him personally and activities were chosen based on his favorite game. All together, you can make a great activity book for less than $3. that will entertain your child for at least 8 hours.
(Our trip was 28 hours Straight, 2 kidsages 3-6).
