In my opinion, the most important question is do you need your child to have one. Until your child has the income to pay for something like that herself her wants aren’t too relevant. Cell phonescan be handy for keeping track of where they are and what they’re up to but is a 10 year old really going to be that far afield?
I certainly wouldn’t consider one unless it could be tightly controlled, i.e., no texting, limited numbers available to call out and receive, limited usage, etc. I expect the charm of having a cell phone would fade very quickly if she can only call mom and 911 and not text at all. Lori.

I’ve
told her no several times and I have my reasons. I just feel bad when
the majority of her 5th grade class has one.
Do you child have a cell phone? What made you buy them one?
Moody friends. Drama queens. Your life?
Nope! – their life, your story.
