Thats how I feel. The main reason you didn’t see teens with cellphones when we
were growing up is simply because they weren’t invented yet! You know we would
have had them if they existed. Just like internet, iPods, etc. I personally likebeing able to reach my kids or more importantly have them be able to reach me.
They have learned thru trial and error, how they have to be responsible. My two
older girls have lost parties, outings and shopping trips because they ran theirbills up. I’ve since adjusted my plan to meet their needs and wants along with
our family budget. Its working. None of us have internet access which they hate
but they’ll live. My little one has nothing extra whatsoever…just a plainlittle phone that we got for free from our Cingular rep.

I’m sorry, but I totally disagree. We live in a vastly different society now,
than we did then.Back then, I would agree with you, that no child or adult needed one. But I
feel 100 times better with my 12 yo carrying her own cell phone.
It is a personal decision for each family. you may see no reason, i see a tonof safety factors.
and if you teach your children about the plans, they won’t run up bills. and
that’s also why i always suggest starting with a prepay for children, they canonly spend so much money.

from: herberkids3No, no, and no. My daughter is 11, and she has 2 friends with cell
phones. She has been bugging me for one. I told her the same thingI’ll say now- there is NO reason for a 10 year old, a 12 year old,
or a 15 year old to have a cell phone.
Yes, I know people will jump up and say, “But we can get ahold ofthem easier!” I’d like to point out that when we were all teens, we
never had cells, let alone when we were 10. We checked in with a
regular phone, and didn’t rack up MASSIVE bills from texting, calling people all day, or get into trouble at school for taking a
phone to school.
We told our daughter that when she is 16, and has a job to pay for aphone, along with getting good grades, we will consider letting her
get a cell.
There is simply no good reason for a child to have one. if shereally wants a phone, put a landline in her room.
