The reason why you don’t buy used car seats is because you may not know if they have been in an accident. If there is a way to buy a carseat from someone who bought it used and knows that it was never in a wreck, I don’t see why you shouldn’t. I know I bought the baby carrier/carseat new, but the booster seat type car seat I buy used.

Mine are the high back, 5 point harness and I have never had a problem with them. But make sure you check them for cracks, sun damage, brittleness or any thing that looks ‘funny’. My kids are in very carefully inspected carseats that have had one previous owner who swears they were never in a wreck.

But follow your gut on this one. If paying the extra money prevents you from worrying, then buy new, if not, buy slightly used.
