      Once you have an idea of what type of vehicle you want, go to your

      library and look it up in the Consumer Reports Car Buyers Guide. I’ve

      found that their reliability reports are quite accurate.

      You will pay more at a dealer, but they usually have some kind of

      warranty (but read the fine print). In any case, take it to a mechanic

      you trust and have the mechanic check it out before you buy it.
