We lowered our thermostat to 65 during the day and 60 at night. We
saved $200 for the winter propane. LP this year is even more
expensive.
I just got a letter to lock in the price for the winter
for $1.30 a gallon. Last year we paid $1.08.

This past winter, they raised the price of fuel..
almost tripled. I insisted that the thermostat be set at 56*. We
couldn’t afford to pay a huge bill..
so why create one? We all wore
multiple layers of clothing and in the worst of the winter, we live
by the lake, we all slept in one bedroom and then turned on a high
efficient heater for 1 hour to warm the room, and then had I got up a
half hour prior to everyone.. and turned it back on for a half hour.
At the end of the “season” according to the stores, I was able to
purchase electric blankets from $8-12 for double and queen sizes.
These run for only pennies an hour..
and we only turned them on to
heat our beds. Then we didnt need the spare heater. All in all, we
kept the bill down, electric and gas remained under $250 a month.
The energy company actually accused us of cheating!
