brown bag vs. school lunches

Can someone please explain to me how and/or why you include your kid’s lunch money in their allowance?
My thinking is that (1) if they want to save the money, they might skip eating lunch (not good) and also that (2) they need to eat either way. Why tie their allowance to a basic necessity like eating lunch?

Granted, my child is too young for elementary school at this point, but I am curious as to this line of thinking. I have heard several parents do it.
