I read about the rules being different in each state. I have Farmers. I have a DD in collage 700 miles away, with no car.

So I asked my agent if I can insure her 1 month at winter break and 3 months during summer and he told me no. I then called another agent and asked him the same question and guess what. He told me that it is acceptable, he did that when his kids were away at collage.

Go figure. Needless to say I switched agents not insurance company.

In NJ we have to report any child who is of driving age to our
insurance even if she or he doesn’t have a license. Then they are added to the
most valuable car on the policy, unless they have a car of their own.
At least, that is how I understand it according to parents who have been
thru it. Our premiums are already the highest in the country I’m
dreading my daughter’s 17th birthday next year!

I know in Michigan if the teen has a license, his name must be added to

the insurance policy, or he needs to have his own policy. The reason is

that teens are much more likely to get into accidents, and the
insurance company needs to make sure the person is insured. Not all
policy’s cover anyone driving the car, so call Geico and ask.
